Carla de Roquefort is a beautiful and tranquil French village situated on a small hilltop with fabulous views of the surrounding Ariège hills and mountains.

The Ariège borders the Pyrenees Mountains, with easy links to Andorra and the Mediterranean coast. The region is directly south of Toulouse on the A66/E09 motorway to Andorra.

The main airports serving the region are Blagnac (Toulouse) and Saleza (Carcassonne). Both are just one hours drive away from Carla de Roquefort. It is also possible to fly into Pau or Perpignan if those airports are destinations offered by your local airport.

Directions from Toulouse Airport (Journey Time 1hr 10mins):

From Toulouse follow the blue A61/E80 motorway signs for Montpellier, Foix and Barcelona. This will take you in an anti-clockwise direction around the Toulouse ‘Peripherie’. Do not follow the green Foix N20 signs unless you wish to avoid the peage/autoroute.

When you reach the E80 you will pass through the ‘peage’ automated tolls, where you will collect a ticket. Drive a further 10-15 minutes towards Montpellier/Barcelona then the motorway splits two ways. Get in the right-hand lane and follow the blue motorway signs (A66/E09) for Andorra and Foix. You are now heading directly South towards Andorra and the mountains. Just north of Pamiers (about 20 minutes on) you will eventually pass through the peage pay point (just under 5 euros). At night it is not manned so bring notes or cash with you.

Carry on down the dual-carriageway (N20/E09) past two Pamiers turnings and exit the motorway at Junction 7 signposted Varihles and Verniolle. At the roundabout take the third exit heading for Verniolle & Mirepoix (which crosses back over the motorway). Take the second exit off the next roundabout and the first exit off the one after that. The road is signposted for St Felix De Reuitort.

Drive for a further 20 minutes through winding country roads, keeping to the left at any forks in the road, passing through St Felix and Ventenac. Look out for the occasional sign for Carla de Roquefort. Eventually you will descend a long, winding hill into Carla itself.

In Carla de Roquefort take the first left (the D301 signposted Laroque D’Olmes and Stade). At the bottom of the hill you cross a small stone bridge and pass the sign for Neylis. The back of our house can be seen immediately on your right. There are 3 tall trees by the next bridge adjacent to the house. Turn right before the bridge/trees. Drive up the lane and around and up the slope to your left to the main entrance of the building.

NB. We are not the farm house directly in front of you.

Directions from Carcassonne Airport (Journey Time 1hr 05mins):

Turn right as you exit the airport and join the D119 for Montreal then Fanjeaux until you reach Mirepoix (that part of the journey takes about 45 mins).

When you cross the river just before Mirepoix take the left turn signposted Toutes Directions. At the Esso garage turn left and take the second exit off the roundabout signposted Lavelanet. There is a Super U supermarket on your left.

Drive a further 10-15 minutes towards Lavelanet until you reach Laroque d’Olmes. At the traffic lights (the only set in Laroque d’Olmes) turn right on the D1 signposted for Foix.

A further 10 minutes (7km) will take you through La Sautel and Lieurac and into the village of Neylis. At the bus stop in Neylis turn right on the D301 (signposted Carla de R. and Stade) and drop down the short hill. There are 3 tall trees by the bridge next to our property.

Turn left immediately after the small stone bridge by the 3 tall trees. La Maison de Roquefort is the house on the left (not the farm house in front of you). Drive around to the left and up the slope to the main entrance of the building.
