Le Tour De France 2010

Running from Saturday July 3rd to Sunday July 25th 2010, the 97th Tour de France will be made up of 1 prologue and 20 stages and will cover a total distance of 3,600 kilometres. A novelty in the first of the four Pyrenean stages (stage 14): two "modern" as an alternative to "historical" climbs will be tackled as the gruelling Port de Pailhères and Plateau de Bonascre in Ax-3 Domaines were not included on the race itinerary before the 21st century.
This year there are two key stages for our visitors to see the Tour, the stage with the new cols, passing through Mirepoix, Chalabre and Quillan on Sunday 18th July and (for the first time ever) on Monday 19th July stage 15 will start from Pamiers, just 20 minutes from our chambres d'hotes:

Stage 14, Sunday, 18th July, Revel to Ax-3 Domaines (184km)

Stage 15, Monday 19th July, Pamiers to Bagneres-de-Luchon (187km)

Recent Tour de France stages in the Ariège-Pyrenees

In 2007 and 2008 two stages of the Le Tour De France passed within a short drive of La Maison De Roquefort.

On Wednesday 16th July, 2008 Stage 11 of Le Tour climaxed with a thrilling sprint at the foot of the famous Chateau de Foix, with ARVESEN Kurt-Asle of the TEAM CSC SAXO BANK winning in a photo finish.

Staying with us to catch Le Tour 2008 were Robert & David Ferre from the USA and the Marshall family from Australia (picture below left). We would like to thank them all for the fun and excitement they brought to the whole occasion. On Thursday 17th July, Stage 12 kicked off from Lavelanet, with the peloton (159 riders) packed tightly together as they settled into the 182 km ride ahead. Mark Cavendish forged ahead to win his third stage of the 2008 Tour at Narbonne.

E’Tape de Tour

In 2007, a week before the official Tour race came through the region, Foix staged the E’Tape de Tour. Over 8,000 amateur cyclists had the chance to complete one of the most gruelling stages of that year’s race (see picture below). Five riders stayed at La Maison de Roquefort the night before. Congratulations once again to all of them from Kay and Mike for completing the 196 kilometres in style. It was a pleasure to be so directly involved with the E’Tape de Tour and to share in your preparation and excitement.
